At the moment, marvel movies They enjoy a great status among the public thanks to the construction of a unique universe that was forged over more than 30 films. However, there was a time when what we found were single films, sometimes with continuations, that focused on certain heroes, but with separate stories. Spider-Man, Hulk or even Blade, to put a different note, were some of them. The Fantastic Four were also present and thus in 2005 their first modern film arrived.
Directed by Tim Story, this film allowed us to know the origin of this group of heroes and their first steps after acquiring its exceptional powers. Thus, the Human Antocha, the Invisible Girl, The Thing and Mr. Fantastic would fight against Doctor Doom, or Doctor Doom, after the storm that changed their lives. For some reason, today I decided to watch it again through Disney Plus after not having done so since I was a child and, regardless of the criticism, I was pleasantly surprised by many details that I want to tell you below.
What happened to the Fantastic Four?
In The Fantastic Four We meet Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm on their trip to space to test a theory about human evolution and find a possible cure for different diseases. However, everything goes wrong and the cosmic storm reaches them and Victor Von Muerte, the magnate who has financed the expedition. They all survive, but when they return to Earth they begin to experience different powers.
Thus, and almost because of Johnny Storm, they become a kind of celebrities acclaimed by the population that gives rise to The Fantastic Four. In addition to having to fight against Victor, now Doctor Doom, we will also learn about his personal vicissitudes as they try to Reverse the situation.
One of the things that surprised me the most is that I found it tremendously funny. It’s true that it’s not the best Marvel movie, of course, but it has a fairly constant pace throughout. the 2 hours it lasts. And along the lines of what I say, I have found the jokes, (not always), well placed and successful. That is to say, it does not border on humor as exaggerated as, for example, Thor: Love and Thunder, which I personally appreciate. For example, it has one of the best advertising actions that I have seen for a brand within a movie, which is the Burger King sign on fire.
On the other hand, in terms of effects, it has even aged quite well. From the representation of scientific technology to the powers themselves, they are perceived at a good level, taking into account that almost 20 years have passed since their release. The cast of actors themselves is also quite striking, although the one I liked the least was Doctor Doom, played by Julian McMahon. In fact, it is curious because the actors considered included Nicolas Cage and Robert Downey Jr, who would later play Iron Man.
As for the four members, we find Jessica Alba, who I was talking about recently with the Dark Angel series, or Chris Evan, Captain America. It is curious how the one who is now one of Marvel’s stars was chosen for the second role to prevent Fox from including him in a future Fantastic Four movie. In the same way, this fact, added to the fact that Alba no longer wanted to play the Invisible Girl, meant that a third film was not released after Silver Surfer.
With all this, it should also be noted that the 2015 premiere of Fantastic Four made this installment good, making us remember it, at least, fondly. Plus, save much more nods to comics than its predecessor. Therefore, now that it is available to watch through Disney Plus, it is a great time to give it another chance and, in addition, I recommend listening to “Everything burns”, one of the promotional songs for the film. I assure you that returning to this era of Marvel has not been bad at all.
Now we have to wait for the next Fantastic Four project, about which we precisely have new information and statements from its director. Although there is still a couple of years left for it to arrive, the return of this particular group of superheroes and their insertion into the MCU is always good news.
