The “dismantling” to which Max (former HBO Max) is being subjected by Warner Bros. Discovery leaves us with quite embarrassing news. For example, a series announced at the time as a spin-off of one of its most beloved superhero shows in recent years will finally not come to the service, but to Netflix and as part of the universe of one of its successes, The Sandman.
A supernatural series for Netflix
Dead Boy Detectives follows in the footsteps of characters whom we already saw in the third season of Doom Patrol and who, for a long time, was thought of as a project with enough identity to expand the brand on HBO Max. However, changes in ownership and the arrival of a new manager at DC Studios seem to have ruined this idea and now Dead Boy Detectives is presented as a supernatural series exclusive to Netflix.
Is there a ghost out there that you can’t get rid of? Or some demon that has stolen your deepest memories? If I were you, I’d call the Dead Detectives. In this series from the universe of ‘The Sandman’, two teenagers find themselves in the afterlife… and they are willing to do anything to stay together: flee from evil witches, hell and even Death itself. With the help of the medium Crystal (Kassius Nelson), they will try to solve the most disconcerting paranormal cases in the realm of the living.
Ultimately, Dead Boys Detective is a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of its protagonists, Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri). Its first season consists of eight chapters and, for now, there is no release date.
The new home for Dead Boy Detectives makes some sense considering the success of The Sandman last year on Netflix. This fiction was based on some DC Vertigo comics written by Neil Gaiman, who precisely created the Dead Boy Detectives alongside artist Matt Wagner in one of the comics in the collection. The question now is, is she still connected to Doom Patrol?
