Israel and Hamas reached an agreement that contemplates the release of dozens of kidnapped women and children by Hamas terrorists in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting. The information was published this Saturday Washington Postwhich indicated that the United States government participated as a mediator in the deal.
“The release, which could begin in the coming days – barring last-minute setbacks – could lead to the first sustained pause in the conflict in Gaza, according to people familiar with its provisions,” reported the American media.
It is a detailed six-page agreement, according to the Washington Post.
He pointed out that the terms contemplate that the parties involved in the conflict would freeze combat operations for at least five days. In that time, 50 or more hostages must be released in small batches every 24 hours.
“It was not immediately clear How many of the 239 people believed to be held captive in Gaza would be released? under the agreement. Aerial surveillance would monitor movement on the ground to control the pause,” the newspaper noted.
Arab and other diplomats told the post that It took weeks to work out the agreement,in talks between Israeli, American and Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar. The terrorist group caused the death of hundreds of people on October 7 in Israeli territory, in a violent incursion.
“The decision to accept the deal is difficult for Israel, said a person familiar with the situation who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations. While there is strong internal pressure on Netanyahu to bring the hostages home, There are also strong voices in Israel demanding that the government not barterto obtain his release,” the newspaper added.
