The validity of any such notice can be checked in a few seconds. The Income Tax Department provides special tools to verify the notice. With the help of this tool, the notice can be verified online from home in a jiffy.
This online tool of the Income Tax Department gives the right to verify any notice. It is completely free, that is, the free service is available to everyone, whether you are registered on the e-filing portal or not. If you have received any notice or order from the Income Tax Department in the meantime, then you can easily find out its validity. Whether the notice is fake or not, you can verify it in a jiffy by using the method mentioned here.
How to verify Income Tax Department notice
First of all go to Income Tax e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.
Now click on the Authenticate Notice/Order Issued by ITD section appearing under the Quick Links option on the left side of the screen.
Here you will have two options in front of you. Choose one of them and fill in the required details.
If you choose the first option, you will be asked for PAN number, document type (notice or order), assessment year, date of issue of notice, and mobile number. During this, fill in the active mobile number.
If you choose the second option, you will be asked to fill in the Document Identification Number (DIN) and mobile number mentioned on the Income Tax Department notice. Taxpayers are usually asked for the mobile number linked to Aadhaar or PAN.
Now click on the Continue button. As soon as you do this, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number. Enter it in the required space and click on the Continue button.
If the notice is genuine, the tool will confirm it immediately. If not, you will know that someone has hatched a conspiracy for the purpose of fraud or personal details or something else. In such a case, such notices should be ignored.
