Iranian President calls for national reconciliation in Afghanistan

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi believes that the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan is a historic chance for the establishment of long-term peace in this Asian country.

The President said this during a reception by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javad Zarif.

Raisi noted that Tehran is closely monitoring the current situation in Afghanistan and is committed to the principles of good neighborly relations. “The military defeat and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan is an opportunity to establish security and lasting peace in this country. Iran is making efforts to ensure stability in Afghanistan and calls on the parties to national reconciliation, ”the president said.

Raisi instructed the Foreign Minister to monitor and inform him in detail about the situation in Afghanistan.

Situation in Afghanistan

The Taliban launched an offensive in Afghanistan after the failure of inter-Afghan negotiations and the US decision to withdraw troops from the country.

In June, the Taliban took over dozens of counties and then targeted provincial centers.

Currently, Kabul International Airport is the only exit route from the country.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani also left the country on Sunday. The head of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, in a video message confirmed the absence of the head of state in the country.

Meanwhile, the Taliban announced that foreign citizens, including diplomats, would be safe.
