IPL 2022: Moeen Ali is yet to get Indian visa, will not play in the first match of IPL

new Delhi: The defending champions Chennai Super Kings may have to go without Moeen Ali in their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as the England all-rounder has been called off for the T20 tournament starting in Mumbai from March 26. Haven’t got Indian visa yet. The first match of IPL 2022 will be played between four-time champions Chennai and last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

This was confirmed by CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. Viswanathan said, ‘It is certain that Moeen Ali will not be able to play in the first match. He hasn’t got a visa yet. We and the BCCI (Cricket Board of India) are making efforts for this. Hopefully the matter will be resolved in a day or two.

“It is disappointing that he has not been able to join the team yet. For players of Pakistan origin, the prescribed procedures are followed. This seems to be the reason (for the delay).’ Moin’s grandfather had migrated to England from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir but Moin was born in England and visits India frequently.

The first match of IPL 2022 will be played between four-time champions Chennai and last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Due to the rules of Quarantine, will not be able to play in the first match.

“Moin will have to be in quarantine for three days to enter the bio-secure environment of the IPL and in such a situation, even if he gets the visa tomorrow, he will not be able to play in the first match,” he said.

Moeen was retained by the Super Kings ahead of the IPL auction. Moeen Ali played a very important role in making Chennai win the title. He ranks third in the list of highest run-scorers for Chennai in IPL 2021. He scored 357 runs in 15 innings. His batting average was 25.50. The strike rate was also of 137.30. Moeen had batted aggressively and hit a total of 19 sixes in the entire league. Along with this, he can also play an important role from off-spin. Moeen Ali has retired from Test cricket but continues to perform well in the limited overs format.
