Apple’s iPhone sales, famous for its smartphones all over the world, have suffered a setback. Quoting IDC, which tracks the smartphone market, Bloomberg has written that iPhone shipments have fallen by about 10% in the first quarter of the year. Apple has faced tough competition from companies like Samsung and Xiaomi. This report also shows that the trend of customers has increased rapidly towards budget smartphones, although the purchase of premium models has also increased.
Samsung again number-1, Xiaomi sales increased
The global market of smartphones increased to 28.94 crore handsets, which is 7.8% more than last year. In this, Samsung Electronics Co. has once again been successful in achieving the first position. The shipment of budget smartphone maker Transsion has increased by 85%, while the sales of Xiaomi Corp. have also seen a huge jump, and it has come very close to Apple sitting at the number 2 position.
Cupertino, California-based Apple has been struggling to maintain its sales in China, the world’s largest smartphone market, ever since it launched its latest iPhone in September. Apple’s global results are being affected due to the ongoing crisis in China. According to preliminary results from IDC, the company has shipped 5 million fewer iPhones than a year ago.
Smartphone market is recovering from turmoil
Nabila Popal, research director at IDC, said the smartphone market is emerging both strong and transformative after the turmoil of the last two years. While the top two smartphone companies both saw negative growth in the first quarter, Samsung seems to be in a stronger position than in recent quarters.
IDC researchers found that average selling prices of handsets are rising as consumers increasingly choose premium models that they plan to keep for longer periods of time. It is likely that Apple has sold a higher proportion of its iPhone 15 Pro devices, resulting in higher revenue per unit, however, the company has also had to resort to unusual discounts to increase sales, some retail partners in China have said. Up to $180 off the normal price.
