Apple today unveiled the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, devices that the company says have been “completely redesigned” for Apple Intelligence..
One of the most exciting new features is the new capacitive Camera Control button, located on the side of the device to make it easier to capture photos and videos. Simply press the Camera Control to take a photo or swipe your finger along it to adjust the zoom. Apple is also launching new visual AI features that can be quickly accessed through Camera Control. Photos taken with iPhone 16 promise to be even more beautiful thanks to improved lenses, including a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. iPhone 16 can also capture 3D videos and photos to create spatial content for display on Apple Vision Pro.
The Action button, previously exclusive to the Pro models, is now available on iPhone 16, replacing the legacy Ring/Silent switch. Users can configure it to perform a variety of actions. At the heart of iPhone 16 is the A18 chip, which is up to 30 percent faster than the A16 Bionic in iPhone 15.
Apple is going all-in on Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features that run on-device using the A18 and in the cloud using Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. To improve sustained performance, the inside of iPhone 16 has been redesigned with a new, more thermally efficient hardware architecture.
Apple Intelligence features will be gradually rolled out over time.including new Genmoji, Image Playgrounds image generation capabilities, automatic notification priority, and a new generation of Siri intelligence. Apple also announced expanded language support for Apple Intelligence, starting with American English, with additional English dialects coming in December and more languages next year. Pricing and a release date have not yet been announced as of this writing.
