The festival, which was started in 2005 with the joint initiative of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Mufti Council, aims to contribute to the fact that the Russian and international community can have an objective opinion about Islam and Muslims.
Before the official opening of the festival held in Kazanskaya Ratusha building, a red carpet parade was held.
Later, Rushan Abbyasov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, made a speech and opened the festival.
This year, 50 films from 24 countries will compete at the festival. Turkey will be represented by the films “The Hive” and “The Keeper of Your Brother” and the documentary “Bitter and Sweet”. The film “Weapon” will also participate in the “Russia-Islamic World” non-competition program.
The director of the movie “Kovan”, Eylem Kaftan, told Anadolu Agency, “It is a great responsibility and at the same time a great pride to be the ambassador of Turkey and to represent our geography and our stories through cinema. We are cultural ambassadors. We go to different geographies, share our films, and meet with the audience. Learning what Russian and Tatar audiences think about our films and sharing our views with them will open our horizons tremendously. This is our biggest expectation.” said.
The festival will end on September 10.
