New Delhi: According to the Union Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, the female labor force participation rate in the country has increased to 37 percent.
In this regard, the Union Ministry of Statistics and Planning Implementation issued a statement: “The preliminary survey on the size of the country’s labor force was conducted in 6,982 villages and 5,732 cities and published. Accordingly, in general, 55.5 percent of males and 30.5 percent of females are working as laborers in rural areas. In urban areas, 58.3 percent of males and 20.2 percent of females are working as laborers. Women are also working as labourers, and according to a survey conducted among people aged 15 to 29 years, 45.9 per cent of them are from rural areas and 40.7 per cent are employed in urban areas.
Generally, 57.9 percent of people above 15 years of age are employed as labourers. Of these, 60.8 percent are from rural areas and 50.4 percent from urban areas. In rural areas, 58.8 percent of males and 71 percent of females are self-employed, while in urban areas, 39.4 percent of males and 40.4 percent of females are self-employed. Among them, rural males constitute 14.3 percent, rural females 8 percent, urban males 47.1 percent, and females 50.8 percent. Among temporary workers, the percentage of rural males is 26.8, females 21, urban males 13.6 and females 8.9.
In general, the unemployment rate in the country is 3.2. Of this, 2.8 percent of males and 1.8 percent of females are unemployed in rural areas, 4.7 percent of males and 7.5 percent of females in urban areas. Among those with 12th standard education or above, unemployment is 6.6 per cent in rural areas and 8.4 per cent in urban areas. The female labor force participation rate in the country increased by 4.2 percent to 37 percent over last year.
The female labor force participation rate has increased significantly due to policy initiatives aimed at long-term socio-economic and political development and as a result of decisive actions taken by the government to ensure women’s empowerment. The government’s initiatives in women’s aspects including women’s education, skill development, facilitation of entrepreneurship and safety at workplace have increased,” the statement said.
