US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in India on 26 October with his wife Susan Pompeo and US Defense Minister Mark Asper. Pompeo and Espar have reached Delhi for a 2 + 2 ministerial conversation to be held on October 27.
In the third edition of this conversation, the two US ministers will meet India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
On October 25, Mike Pompeo announced on Twitter that he has left for India.
China will be mainly on the agenda
There is a possibility that China may remain mainly on the agenda in this conversation. For the last few months, India has been embroiled in a border dispute with China in eastern Ladakh. At the same time, the US has been critical of China’s growing military influence in the South China Sea and the Chinese attitude to demonstrations in Hong Kong.
Last week, Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said that there will be extensive discussion on many bilateral issues in the talks and talks can be held on regional as well as global activities.
During a media briefing, Anurag Shrivastava had said, “Pompeo and Espar will also meet the National Security Advisor. There will also be a joint call with the Prime Minister. ”
It is expected that both countries can finalize the long-pending Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA). This agreement is intended to further strengthen bilateral defense relations. High-level military technology, logistic and geospatial maps can be shared through BECA.
