India and China held a meeting of the Consultation and Coordination System (WMCC) on Wednesday, 22 February, amid the ongoing tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Earlier, the face-to-face WMCC meeting between India and China was held on 14 July 2019. The Indian side was led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by Director General of Boundary and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs. In this meeting, it was decided between the two countries that the 18th Senior Commanders’ meeting would be called soon.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the current situation on LAC was discussed in this meeting between the two countries. During this, both India and China discussed the proposal of withdrawal of troops from the disputed area of LAC. The main objective of the meeting was restoration of peace, in which both the countries talked about normalization of bilateral relations.
18th senior commanders meeting will soon be held between India and China
Issuing the statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the two countries agreed to hold the next (18th) round of senior commanders’ meeting at the earliest in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and protocols. Along with this, both sides also agreed to continue discussions through military and diplomatic channels.
