The first test match of the series between India and England continues at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Indian bowlers bowled 19 no balls in the first innings of England in the first Test match against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai till Saturday on the second day, which is the highest number of no balls by the Indian team bowlers after 10 years. While in the history of Test cricket, this is the second highest number of no balls bowled by bowlers of any team.
Indian bowlers had earlier bowled 16 no balls in Sri Lanka’s first innings during the third Test in Colombo in 2010. Although India won that match.
The record for most no balls in the history of Test cricket is given by the Sri Lankan team bowlers, who bowled 21 balls no balls during Bangladesh’s innings in the second Test in Chittagong in 2014.
India had to put 6 bowlers on the bowling front till the second day in the first Test with England and they bowled 180 overs.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and left arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem have bowled six each, Ishant Sharma has five and experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has bowled two no balls. Nadeem cited the technical reason for throwing six no balls in his debut test.
He said, “I think I’m jumping a little late. I should jump well before the crease but I think I’m jumping a little late. That’s why there was a problem.”
