Azerbaijan has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with “vaccine nationalism” and the purchase of vaccines by rich countries in excess of their needs.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated this at a meeting in Belgrade dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement.
According to him, since its establishment in 1961 in Belgrade, the Non-Aligned Movement has played an important role in the international arena thanks to its efforts for peace, justice and solidarity.
The movement, spanning various regions, brings together 120 countries with different histories, policies and cultures and is considered a true example of multilateralism, he said.
“Unfortunately, double standards associated with the norms of international law and decisions of international organizations, the use of a selective approach negatively affect the fair settlement of conflicts in the world. Over the past 30 years, Azerbaijan has also undergone such a selective approach, ”the Azerbaijani leader said.
The President noted that taking advantage of the double standards prevailing in international relations, Armenia, grossly violating the norms and principles of international law, managed to keep 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory under occupation for almost 30 years. “She carried out a policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis both on her territory and in the occupied Azerbaijani lands. Having committed the Khojaly genocide in February 1992, she killed hundreds of civilians, including 106 women and 63 children. She violated fundamental human rights, including the right of over a million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons to return to their homes, ”the politician said.
The President stressed that despite the refusal to comply with the four resolutions adopted in 1993 by the UN Security Council demanding the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, no sanctions were imposed on Armenia.
“No difference was made between the aggressor state and the occupied state. On the contrary, Armenia consolidated the occupation, committed war crimes, carried out illegal settlement and illegal exploitation of our natural resources, destroyed the cultural and religious heritage of the Azerbaijani people, ”the Azerbaijani leader said.
The head of state recalled that on September 27 last year, Armenia carried out a large-scale attack on Azerbaijan. In response to this, the Azerbaijani army launched a counter-offensive operation on our territory and liberated the occupied lands. “Armenia, which suffered complete defeat as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, was forced to sign an act of surrender on November 10, 2020. Azerbaijan itself ensured the implementation of the above-mentioned UN Security Council resolutions, put an end to the 30-year conflict and restored its territorial integrity and historical justice by military-political means. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a thing of the past, ”he said.
