IIDEA, the trade association of the video game industry in Italy, will hold a seminar dedicated to teachers and school managers entitled “Video games at school: benefits as a teaching tool and opportunity for the development of new skills”. The event will take place on Tuesday 5 November 2024 at the Sala Arci Tavola Tonda at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, in Palermo, as part of the National Cinema Days for Schools 2024. This event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Ministry of Culture, with the collaboration of the Regional School Office for Sicily and the IC “Giuliana Saladino” of Palermo.
The seminar aims to examine the use of video games as educational tools, illustrating their potential benefits for learning and skill development. Participants will be involved in a reflection on how video games can be integrated into teaching practices both in the classroom and outside, in order to support and enrich traditional teaching. The meeting will also offer an overview of professional possibilities in the videogame sector. The event will be introduced and moderated by Alberto Simonetti, Policy & Public Affairs Manager of IIDEA. Speakers will include Alessandro Soriani, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Bologna, Manuela Cantoia, associate professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology at the eCampus University, Marco Vigelini, CEO and founder of Maker Camp, and Marika Montalto, Senior Project Manager at Stormind Games.
The National Cinema Days for Schools 2024, part of the National Cinema and Images Plan for Schools, will take place from 4 to 6 November at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa. The program includes three days of masterclasses, seminars, workshops and national previews aimed at teachers, school managers and operators in the education sector. The initiative is proposed as a training opportunity on visual education in schools and as a promotion platform for the works produced by educational institutions as part of the Plan. This edition marks the first opening of the event to the world of video games, thus expanding the dialogue on innovative methodologies for education.
