The water level has risen by 0.84 feet in the last 12 hours. A red alert will be declared when the water level reaches 2398.86 feet. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Electricity Board CMD headed by the Electricity Minister.
Preparations for the opening of the dam have been completed. But Manorama reported that further action would be taken based on the decision of the disaster management and the government.
Power generation at Moolamattom has been at full capacity since Sunday. Five generators are running here. Repairs to the third generator are expected to be completed by Tuesday.
The water level in Kaki Dam is now 979 feet. When it reached 978, the Red Alert was declared. Idukki, Idamalayar and Kaki dams should not be opened now.
The meeting estimated that the Electricity Board had suffered a loss of Rs 13.67 crore due to the rains. 4.18 lakh power connections were damaged. 60 transformers, 339 posts, 1398 low tension posts and 11 kV lines were also damaged. The decision was made to restore these on a wartime basis. It has also decided to form a task force at the district level headed by the Chief Engineer.
The low pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea is reported to be weak
