In April 2020, Saqib Hafiz began producing news in both English and Urdu together for the first time in a single website. The 23-year-old is the editor-in-chief of a multimedia news website called JKYouth Newspaper.
JKYouth Newspaper is an independent news organisation founded by award winning journalist Saqib Hafiz in 2020 with the aim to provide unbiased news in Jammu and Kashmir.
www.jkyouth.com (JKYouth Newspaper) is the news and content platform of JKYouth Network Pvt Ltd, a private limited company registered in India. Their funding was provided by co-founders who are senior journalists and media academics from their personal savings.
As an unbiased and objective digital news platform, powered by cutting edge technology, their aim is to highlight stories that impact people and present credible and fact-checked stories to the readers. JKYouth Newspaper, founded in Jammu and Kashmir, India, is now a National news operator with operations in India, Asia Pacific and the US. Their aim is to solve the biggest problem of misinformation globally with a focus on debunking misinformation in communities.
The team focuses on hyper-local reporting to highlight developmental issues such as water crisis, road connectivity, electricity, etc. They visit the affected village or area, meet the people, and record their ordeals on camera. But their job does not end at data collection and reportage. They also convey the problems to the concerned department and request them to look into the issues at the earliest.
“The strength of our news lies in the simple language that we use; it is a way we are reclaiming our identity,” said Saqib Hafiz. For him, the website was recourse to preserve the fading interest in Newspapers.
After JKyouth Newspaper completed 3 years, the impact of their initiative was covered by various Leading media houses like Jammu Kashmir News and Bharat Times. It was also nominated for the ‘Best News Portal’ award by the Karbala Committee, which is an amalgamation of more than 15 literary groups.
Their journalists are objective and we have a policy that ensures that they are not affiliated to any political party or advocacy group. They believe in providing fair and transparent editorial opinions.
JKYouth Newspaper has front line expertise in creating media literacy content and delivering media literacy training in fact-checking and counter-misinformation operations.
