Yemeni pro-Iranian movement “Ansarullah” (Houthis) has established control over the district of Harib in the province of Marib.
According to local sources, the Houthis took control of Harib and surrounded the provincial capital on three sides.
Last evening, the Houthis concentrated their forces in the Shakir district, two kilometers from Harib, and then launched an offensive. An intense armed clash broke out between the Houthis on the one hand and the government forces and their supporting tribes on the other.
The clashes killed five people, including two civilians from Kharib.
With the capture of Harib, the administrative center of the province was surrounded by the Houthis on three sides.
Marib is one of the most important strongholds of the legitimate government and is the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense. The Houthis have recently intensified their attacks to capture Marib.
An armed conflict has continued in Yemen since 2014, in which, on the one hand, the rebels of the Shiite movement “Ansarullah” and supporters of the ousted President of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, and on the other, government troops loyal to President Abdurabbu Mansur Hadi are participating.
The armed conflict in Yemen has displaced about three million people.
The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been supporting the Yemeni government in the fight against the Houthis since March 2015.
