Hitachi Vantara, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd, is putting sustainable innovation at the forefront with the launch of its first Sustainability Report. Billed as a milestone for the company, the document emphasizes Hitachi Vantara’s adherence to ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles and presents those ongoing initiatives that are capable of promoting responsible and sustainable business practices.
As highlighted in the report, Hitachi Vantara aims to transform not only its own activities and those of relationships with customers but extends the principles that inform its sustainability also to those of its customers through the adoption and implementation of innovative technologies. The company is committed to a more decarbonised society, aiming to become Carbon Neutral in its direct and indirect consumption by 2030, setting itself the goal of increasing diversity in leadership roles for a 30% female representation by the same year.
Reducing carbon emissions and improving the energy efficiency of its products such as the company’s data storage technology, for example, has been rethought with the aim of substantially decreasing the environmental impact, with solutions that reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Another fundamental point is the optimization of the product life cycle: Hitachi Vantara is committed to sustainable product design, end-of-life management and waste minimization, in line with the principles of the circular economy. The products of Virtual Storage Platform One data platform is ENERGY STAR certified and the company’s unique ‘automated switching’ process reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 30-40%. This certification indicates an important contribution to environmental responsibility and substantial energy savings for consumers and companies.
In the desire to extend good governance practices to its customers, Hitachi Vantara has carried out the migration of the BMW Group storagean operation that led to a 70% reduction in overall dimensions and 80% lower energy demand compared to before the migrationmaking the system much more economical and environmentally friendly.
