Heavy rains expected in northern districts at night; Caution

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rains are expected in the northern districts at night. The Met Office has warned of heavy rains and winds in nine districts, including five in the north, in the next three hours.

Thundershowers will develop at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Heavy rain with thunder is forecast. The warning said winds could reach 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. The Met office has warned of heavy rains in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts in the next few hours.

Heavy rains have been reported in many parts of the northern districts. The hilly region of Kozhikode district receives heavy rainfall. Orange alert has been declared in Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting convened by the Chief Minister decided to intensify rescue operations in all areas where heavy rains continue. All government agencies will step in for this. During the meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan suggested that immediate action be taken to evacuate people from areas prone to landslides, floods and landslides.
