Heavy rain alert issued in Tamil Nadu, holiday in schools in many districts, relief teams also deployed
It has been raining heavily in many areas of Tamil Nadu since Wednesday night. The rain has disrupted normal life. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh till December 13. Due to continuous rains in Tamil Nadu, the administration has ordered closure of schools in 10 other districts including Chennai today i.e. on December 12, 2024.

The 11 districts of the state where school closure has been announced on Thursday include Villupuram, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Thiruvarur, Ranipet, Tiruvallur and Chennai. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukkottai districts. There is also a possibility of rain and lightning at different places here.
Along with Tamil Nadu, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. NDRF and state emergency teams have been deployed to mitigate the impact of rain. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea till December 13. Heavy rains have been recorded in Tamil Nadu this year.
