Weather update, Heatwave Alert, IMD Forecast: North-west India is suffering from the scorching heat. Due to the current scorching heat, people in many states including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan are facing difficulty in living. In many areas, roads are becoming deserted as the day progresses. In the past few days, Palodi in Rajasthan recorded the highest temperature of 50 degrees. The temperature in Najafgarh, Delhi was recorded above 47.5 degrees. Apart from this, the mercury crossed 45 degrees in many other parts of the national capital. People were also in bad condition due to the heat in UP. Even today, severe heat is expected in many states of North-west India. On the other hand, torrential rains are expected in South India. Meanwhile, severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ made landfall between Sagar Island of West Bengal and Khepupara of Bangladesh, causing heavy rainfall in many nearby areas.

According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, heatwave to severe heatwave will continue in many areas of North West India for the next four to five days. Heat waves are also expected in the Western Himalayan region, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. The maximum temperature in most parts of Rajasthan will remain between 47 to 49 degrees today. It is expected to remain between 44 to 46 degrees in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. At the same time, the maximum temperature in some parts of UP will be between 40 to 44 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will be 4-6 degrees above normal in most areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Eastern UP. Strong surface winds are likely to blow at a speed of 25 to 35 km per hour in southern Rajasthan, Delhi and UP from May 26 to May 29. The maximum temperature will increase by about 2 degrees during the next two days, after which there will be no major change in the plains of North West India.

Cyclone Ramal weakened in Bengal
Cyclone Remal hit the coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh and was followed by heavy rains and strong winds in the surrounding areas. The cyclone devastated Bangladesh and Bengal with winds of 135 kmph, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and property. Ghatak Cyclone has now weakened. According to the IMD, it is expected to weaken further.

The cyclone caused power outages in several areas and one person died in Kolkata during the peak of the storm.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many parts of West Bengal on 27 May. Light to moderate rain is expected here on 27-28 May, heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places. Most areas of the northeastern states will receive light to moderate rainfall. Heavy rain may occur in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura from 27 May to 28 May. It is likely to occur in Assam and Meghalaya on 27-28 May, in Arunachal Pradesh on 28 May and in Mizoram and Tripura on 27 May.
