‘Head’ style in resignation: Team CEO reveals how Dhoni stepped down as captain

MS Dhoni has stepped down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the first match of the 15th season of the IPL. Dhoni, who has been the captain of CSKA since 2008, is coming to the end of another era when he steps down after 12 years of service. CSK CEO Kashi Viswanathan has revealed that Dhoni is now stepping down as captain.

Kashi Vishwanathan said that Dhoni had already decided to step down as captain. Dhoni was waiting for the right time. Dhoni was speaking at a team meeting after training. Dhoni had realized that Ravindra Jadeja was mentally ready to take over the captaincy. He also pointed out that Jadeja is in the best form of his career.

According to CSK sources, Dhoni had informed Kashi Vishwanath on the morning of announcing his resignation. Dhoni also expressed interest in talking to CSK owner N Srinivasan. In the evening, Dhoni spoke to Srinivasan and suggested that the captaincy be vacated. Initially, Srinivasan asked Dhoni to stay, but Dhoni stood firm. After this, the team meets and Dhoni announces his decision.

Dhoni has led CSK in 204 matches in the IPL. He won 121 matches. He lost by 84 runs. In the meantime, he won four titles. The crowning achievements were in the 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021 seasons. Has reached the IPL final 9 times. He has twice won the Champions League T20.

CSK has only good things to say about Dhoni as he takes over the captaincy as CSK’s legend. Kashi Vishwanathan said that Dhoni has always gone ahead with his plan. He could still continue as captain. However, Dhoni’s withdrawal came after realizing that Jadeja was mentally prepared to captain the team. “I am confident that Jadeja will be able to lead the team in the right direction,” he said.
