This Hyderabad batsman represented the Indian team in the 2020 World Cup. India had to face defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the final of this world. He was not able to show much in this World Cup. Before the 2020 World Cup, he had scored a half-century in his last four matches in a four-nation tournament. He first came into the public eye with his game in the Under-16 tournament. Here he scored the most runs. 960 runs came off Tilak Verma’s bat.
Verma made a stellar start to domestic cricket. He scored 215 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the year 2021-2022. Strike rate was 147.26. He maintained his form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. Here he scored 391 runs at an average of 97.75 and a strike rate of 97.26. This left-handed batsman can bat anywhere at number three or four.
In List A cricket, Verma has played only 16 matches but this is where he has shown glimpses of his talent. He has scored 784 runs in this. He has a batting average of 52.26 and a strike rate of 96.43. It has three centuries and as many half-centuries. At the same time, he is batting more amazing in T20 cricket. Runs in 15 matches are 381 but with three half-centuries. And the strike rate of batting is 143.77. So these figures are telling that he can bat. And can bat amazingly.
Tilak is actually fulfilling the dream of his electrician father. When the father was unable to take care of his son’s career, a coach came forward. He took care of all the expenses and helped even beyond that. Then this boy from Chandrayangutta area of Hyderabad got busy in grooming his batting. His cuts, pulls and drives, batting stance all started shining. His coach Salaam Bayash played a big role in grooming Tilak. They groomed, sculpted and gave food on need. Moreover, he also gave Tilak a place to live in his house. Father Namburi Nagaraju could not afford to send him to the academy but Salaam took care of all the expenses. Verma had also said, ‘Even if you do not write about me, but definitely write about Coach Sir.’
