In protest against the alleged gang rape and death of a Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, the Congress will conduct a ‘silent satyagraha’ at the district and state level across the country on Monday and demand justice for the victim’s family.
Congress General Secretary (Organization) and MP KC Venugopal said that the “barbaric gang rape and murder of a Dalit girl” in Hathras has shaken the conscience of the country.
As part of the demonstration, the state Congress committees “against the cruel and arbitrary action of the UP government”, demanding justice for the victim’s family, in state and district headquarters, statues of Mahatma Gandhi or Babasaheb Ambedkar or at some other important place “Satyagraha”.”
Venugopal alleged that the 19-year-old girl was denied justice and dignity both in life and death, as her body was cremated at night without the family’s consent.
He said, “The shamelessness and inhumanity showed by the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) hurt the dignity of the victim.”
The Congress leader also condemned the Uttar Pradesh government’s action on October 1 when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, along with other leaders, we’re trying to go to Hathras to meet the victim’s family and the delegation was stopped. He said, “The police arrested Rahul Gandhi in the most inhuman manner and arrested Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Ji and other leaders. Police brutally lathi-charged Congress party workers and other party officials. The leaders were not only forcibly stopped, but an FIR was also registered against them.
