Madrid is preparing to host the celebrations for the fourth European Championship won by the national team on Monday, after beating England (2-1) last night at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The players of La Roja were expected to arrive at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport around 2:10 p.m., but their flight was delayed by almost an hour and landed at 3:05 p.m. They were received by Felipe VI, the Queen and their daughters at the Zarzuela Palace. Afterwards, they went to the Moncloa Palace where the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, was waiting for them, accompanied by other representatives of the Executive.
After the institutional meetings, the team will tour the streets of Madrid towards the Palacio de Comunicaciones, where from 7:30 p.m. there will be a big party for the fans with musical performances while waiting for the bus to arrive, around 9:15 p.m. Among other personalities, the event will include the singer Isabel Aaiún, the DJ Wally López, Ibai Llanos and the presenter Saúl Ramos.
The team travels in an open-top bus to meet the fans on a route that starts at Moncloa and Calle Princesa heading towards Alberto Aguilera. The route continues through Plaza de Colón, Calle Jorge Juan and Calle Serrano to Puerta de Alcalá. From there, along Alfonso XII and Montalbán, to the City Hall headquarters in Cibeles.
Metro Madrid has reinforced lines 2 and 4 for the celebration. The Banco de España station will remain closed from 18:30, as the organization itself has announced on social media.
