- The details of those who died due to Covid will be published.
- Health Minister Veena George clarified the decision.
- The information will be released through the website of the Department of Health.
The government’s decision comes amid growing opposition to the release of information, including the names of those killed by Covid. The minister said the district, age and date of death were being published in a bulletin on the health department’s website. From now on, it has been decided to publish by name, age and place. It will be published on the health department’s website from tomorrow.
The crucial decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the minister. Covid deaths are confirmed by doctors. The government withdrew from releasing the names in December 2020 following a controversy over the list of deaths.
The minister had said that he would look into any isolated complaints about deaths not included in the list. Health Minister Veena George added that the names would be released considering the privacy of the families.
Meanwhile, figures released by the Department of Health today confirmed that 146 deaths in the past few days were due to Covid. This brings the total death toll in Kerala to 13,505. The test positivity rate is 10.11. 1,03,764 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 28,31,394 people have so far been freed from Covid. There are currently 3,91,753 people under surveillance in various districts of the state.
