With its participation in the next edition of the Champions League assured on the field, Girona is now working in the offices to comply with the requirements demanded by UEFA and be able to debut in Europe’s top competition. The club has already obtained permission to play at its Montilivi stadium, after committing to adapt the facilities to regulations, a reform that will limit the capacity from 14,000 to 9,000 spectators. The second condition requires that Girona and Manchester City document the timeshare rule to eliminate a potential conflict of interest in the Champions League.
UEFA has asked Manchester City to sell part of its stake in the Catalan club, according to reports The Times. The English club should reduce its participation to less than 30%. The City Football Group owns 100% of City and 47% of Girona. The red and white entity has already assured that it will comply with the conditions required by UEFA. A document from the Clubs Financial Control Committee refers to article 5 to warn that in case of doubt the case will be studied and a decision will be made on the admission of those involved in the competitions.
The same regulations contemplate in any case an exceptional alternative for next season, since there is only time until June 3 to catch up with the new UEFA requirements.
