The lifelike 3D cat appeared on the 154.7 square meter 4K resolution advertising screen. The billboard is located on the roof of the building in front of Shinjuku train station, Tokyo.
The initiative is run by local businesses with the desire to create a mascot in Shinjuku to cheer people up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On July 7, Tokyo recorded 920 new COVID-19 infections, the highest since May 13. Faced with this situation, Tokyo must declare a state of emergency throughout the Olympic Games and the matches will be without spectators.
Because of Tokyo’s emergency, the 3D cat can only appear from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to billboard management company Yunika.
