Mr. Netanyahu convened a security cabinet meeting that day to ratify the agreement, according to the newspaper The Times of Israel. However, the vote of the entire cabinet only took place on the evening of January 18. The public will then have 24 hours to submit any objections to the deal to the Israeli Supreme Court, which is not expected to intervene. With the above proposed time, the agreement may only take effect on January 20, one day later than planned.
The good news has not been received yet, casualties have continued because of Israel’s air strikes on Gaza
There are currently 98 hostages being held in the Gaza Strip, of which the Israeli military confirmed at least 36 people have died. According to the agreement, Hamas will release 33 hostages in phase 1 lasting 6 weeks. In return, Israel gradually withdrew its troops from the Gaza Strip but still maintained a security perimeter and released Palestinian prisoners. On the 16th day, the two sides will begin negotiations on releasing more hostages and withdrawing troops in phase 2. All hostages will be released in phase 3 and Israel will completely withdraw its troops.
Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir of the far-right Jewish Power party has announced he will leave Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government if the deal is approved.
Despite the agreement, fighting has not stopped in the Gaza Strip. Al-Jazeera radio reported yesterday that at least 101 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes since the parties announced an agreement on January 15.
