- Rahul deserves to be vice-captain
According to reports, Rohit Sharma will be the next captain after the T20 World Cup. But an official announcement is yet to be made. It is certain that there will be a new vice-captain. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has confirmed that Rohit will be India’s next T20 captain. He made the remarks while speaking at Star Sports.
“Rohit should be the captain till the next World Cup. We have two World Cups coming up. There are no big trials in between,” Gavaskar said. He is considering two candidates for the post of vice-captain. “I consider KL Rahul as the vice-captain. I also have the name of Rishabh Pant in my mind,” Gavaskar said. Rahul is currently the captain of the Punjab Kings in the IPL. Rishabh Pant leads Delhi Capitals.
With Rohit as captain, Rahul or Rishabh Pant are likely to be the vice-captains. The 34-year-old Rohit will no longer be able to lead the team. After three or four years, the vice-captain under Rohit will become the team captain. India had made Rahul their vice-captain in the T20 series against Australia. In the fifth match of the T20 series against New Zealand, Rahul captained the team in the absence of Kohli and Rohit. Currently, Rahul has secured a place in the Indian team in all three formats.
