Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was on Saturday appointed as the mentor of the new Lucknow franchise. He will be seen mentoring the team in IPL 2022. Kolkata, who won the title twice, will benefit from joining the team. Let us inform that the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises have joined the IPL before 2022, due to which the number of teams has increased to 10. However, the name of this team has not been decided yet.
On the other hand, Sanjeev Goenka, the owner of the franchise, welcomed Gambhir into the RPSG family. He said- Gautam has a wonderful record. I respect his cricketing experiences and look forward to working with him. Let us tell you that despite not playing since 2018, Gambhir is still one of the best batsmen of the tournament. He has scored 4218 runs in 154 matches in IPL career at an impressive average of 31.01. This includes 36 fifties.
Earlier, former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower was appointed as the head coach of the Lucknow franchise team. Flower was serving as the assistant coach of Punjab Kings for the last two seasons. KL Rahul, who has been the captain of Punjab for the last two seasons, is also likely to join the Sanjeev Goenka-owned Lucknow franchise.
This legendary Zimbabwean cricketer has also been the head coach of the England national team. It was under him that England won the T20 World Cup in 2010 and topped the Test rankings. The Lucknow franchise was bought by the Goenka-led RP-SG group for Rs 7090 crore.
