James Cameron, a key figure in the garden care revolution at STIGA, is of Scottish origins and with a Masters in Product Design Engineering, he joined STIGA in January 2020, bringing with him a rich and varied experience in the design field of consumer goods.
During his career, he has worked as a designer, consultant and engineer in several multinational companies and has collaborated with Olympic athletes to develop technologies to measure their performance. His experience also extends to the medical sector, where he has worked to optimize the interaction between operators and machines. These skills have prepared him to tackle and lead innovation projects at STIGA, where today he holds the role of Design and Innovation Director.
Cameron is deeply passionate about design and innovation, a passion that has fueled his commitment to various sectors and which led him to STIGA with the aim of contributing to the planet through a more sustainable approach. His vision for the future of STIGA combines technology and design to simplify the use of highly technological products, making them accessible to users of all ages, without sacrificing performance. Using artificial intelligence to train virtual assistants to facilitate product support and management is just one example of its innovations.
“My deep passion for design and innovation is what has always inspired my commitment and represents the “fil rouge” that links all my experiences in different sectors. It is this passion, combined with the desire to do my part to contribute positively to the planet through a more sustainable approach, that brought me to STIGA. Today, design and artificial intelligence play a key role,” says James Cameron – Innovation & Category Management Director of STIGA“as they allow you to simplify the use of a highly technological product, thus making it more accessible to users of all ages without sacrificing the performance of a latest generation product. AI, for example, can be applied to “train” the virtual assistant to know all service and product manuals. In this way, those less accustomed to technology will simply need to ask the virtual assistant, via voice command, how to solve a problem, for example when it is necessary to change the blades of their robot, how to program the working perimeter, or how to set the height of cut.”
A prominent project to which he personally contributed was the design of the Autonomous Robot Mower, a lawnmower robot that embodies STIGA’s commitment to the electric transition and research into advanced technologies. This product, not only intuitive to use but also essential for a healthy and lush lawn, was awarded the Red Dot Design Award in 2023. Features such as the GPS system and the attractive design have made the robot a distinctive element in the market.
“What makes STIGA robot lawnmowers truly unique is the quality of the cut. It is a lightweight product equipped with GPS technology which ensures that the same areas are not cut repeatedly, thus avoiding damage to the grass due to excessive stress” – explains Cameron, underlining the importance of caring for greenery and not simply maintaining it. “Thanks to the integration of modern GPS technology based on the Active Guidance System (AGS) predictive system patented by STIGA, which guarantees maximum signal reliability, and to the practical and attractive design with bright yellow-orange coating, the Autonomous Robot will be released in 2023 Mower won the Red Dot Design Award“.
