French soldier killed in Mali

A French soldier was killed in Mali.

As reported in the Elysee Palace, senior corporal of the 7th battalion of mountain riflemen Maxim Blasco was killed during a clash with a group of armed terrorists.

President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.

France will continue its decisive struggle in the Sahel region, the Elysee Palace stressed.

Macron said on June 10 that France is completing its military operation “Barkhan” in the Sahel, and will be replaced by an international anti-terrorist alliance.

“Based on the results of our consultations, we will begin a deep transformation of our military presence in the Sahel,” the head of state said.

Over five thousand French troops were involved in Operation Barkhan.
