Former Vice Admiral of the Indian Navy in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, S. H. Sarma passed away on Monday in Bhubaneswar. Officials said Sarma was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet during the 1971 war. He was 99 years old.
Bangladesh was formed after India defeated Pakistan in the 1971 war. Officials said Sarma had also been the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.
