“Mr. Lim Kimya… died at the scene. Officers from the Thai Metropolitan Police Department have launched a hunt for the killer (who escaped),” the newspaper said. Bangkok Post reported, adding that the victim had dual French-Cambodian nationality.
Meanwhile, Thai police confirmed to AFP News Agency about the assassination but did not mention the victim’s identity or whether he was a former Cambodian parliamentarian.
There are still pages Khaosodreported that Mr. Lim Kimya, 74 years old – a former parliamentarian of an opposition party in Cambodia, was shot at around 4:00 pm on January 7 near Wat Bowonniwet Vihara temple in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok.
The victim was wearing a black polo shirt and cream shorts, and was hit by two gunshots, one in the right ribcage and one in the right shoulder.
According to police, the suspect is a man riding a red motorbike and wearing a helmet, with a gun hidden in his bag. The gunman fled the scene toward Phra Sumen Street, passing Wat Bowonniwet.
Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Director of the Metropolitan Police Department, directed an immediate investigation into the shooting.
Initial investigation results showed that the victim, who was not named, came from Siem Reap (Cambodia) by bus with his wife, a French citizen, and a relative who is a Cambodian citizen.
