Meeting with the representatives of the Turkish community in the new Turkevi in New York. CavusogluAfter mentioning his memories of the old Turkevi, he explained that with the development and progress of Turkey and the vision, there is a need for a larger Turkevi.
Stating that they completed the Türkevi, whose foundation was laid 4 years ago, despite the Covid-19 outbreak and all the difficulties, Çavuşoğlu stated that the opening was held with the participation of the leaders, ambassadors of different countries, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and international community representatives. He stated that they could not invite everyone because of the reason they wanted to come together with Turkish citizens who could not attend the opening today.
Çavuşoğlu said that they have put the 35-storey Turkish House, which is the envy of everyone, to the service of the state and the nation, and noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s representative office will be located in the Turkish House, as well as the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations and the Consulate General in New York.
“Anyone who works for humanity can use the Turkish house”
Çavuşoğlu continued his words as follows:
“We will not only work here, we will not only be with our citizens. Many guests who have already come here have made offers to ask, ‘Can we use this place too?’. Mr. President and I said to our interlocutors, ‘Of course, anyone who works for humanity can use this place’. Hopefully, many international organizations and their representatives will also use this place. Our non-governmental organizations will use it, our associations will use it. Here, our institutions representing our society will use it. This is the home of the Turk, the home of everyone, the home of all of us, and all our citizens will use it.”
Çavuşoğlu thanked TRNC President Ersin Tatar for attending the meeting with the Turkish community at the Türkevi and continued his words as follows:
“We will continue to defend our national cause, Cyprus, together until the end. In the Cyprus process, we negotiated for a federation for 54 years. We have always approached with good intentions and always approached moderately and supported the processes, but the Greek Cypriot side, which sees the Turkish Cypriots as a minority and does not want to share anything with the Turkish Cypriots, rejected all plans, all efforts, and we last said in Crans Montana that there is no longer a need for a federation. We will not negotiate, we will now negotiate for two states. Today, together with you, under your leadership, under the leadership of our President and within the framework of the vision we have set forth, we are working in your nature to ensure that the rights of the Turkish Cypriots are not defeated, and I hope we will defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriots together until the end. Everyone has to recognize the sovereignty of the TRNC and the rights granted by the 1960 constitution. In this direction, we, as Turkey, will continue to support your efforts as much as we can. We will carry out this process together.”
