In April, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill prohibiting local governments from requiring heat protection for outdoor workers. The measure limits protection to employees affected by high temperatures, like Miami-Dade County, which attempted to pass an ordinance requiring access to water and shaded breaks.
Currently, there are no federal or state laws in the United States that guarantee special measures to protect workers from the heat when performing outdoor tasks. The regulations approved by DeSantis are expected to go into effect on July 1.
