Firing in America, another Indian student died…
On January 20, when preparations were going on in America for the swearing-in of newly elected President Donald Trump, an incident happened that shocked a family in Hyderabad. This incident once again raises questions about the safety of Indian students there.
Ravi Teja, a resident of RK Puram Green Hills Colony in Chaitanyapuri area of Hyderabad, who had gone to the US in March 2022, lost his life in a shootout. Ravi had recently completed his PG studies and was currently looking for a job. After the incident, the local police said that they have not been able to find out the motive behind the attack and the culprits.
,How did my son go and how is he returning…”
Ravi Teja’s father. Chandramouli expressed pain over this incident and said, “I cannot say anything. No father should have to face such a situation. How did my son go and how is he returning now?”
Increasing violence against Indian students in America
In the last few years, there have been incidents of firing on Indian students in America. In November 2024, a youth from Khammam district of Telangana was shot dead outside a gas station in Chicago. Earlier in 2020, Mohammed Mujeebuddin from Hyderabad was shot near S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.
These incidents have not only raised concerns in the Indian community, but have also raised questions as to whether any steps are being taken to prevent such incidents. Ravi Teja’s death has once again raised questions on this security system.
Police investigation and family wait
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, but this is a difficult time for the family. His son’s move to America was to fulfill big dreams, but now his return is bringing a lot of sorrow and pain.
