Euronews reported that about 1,200 tourists were evacuated from the Eiffel Tower in Paris (France) after a fire in one of the elevator shafts between the first and second floors.
A source said the fire occurred around 10:30 a.m. on December 24, due to one of the elevator cables overheating. The fire was later extinguished and access to the tower was restricted while authorities handled the incident.

Many people posted on social networks pictures of the incident happening at the Eiffel Tower, including people who said they were there when the fire broke out. “We were ordered to evacuate immediately,” a witness wrote on social network X.

The latest incident occurred more than 5 years after a serious fire at another famous structure in France, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. After the fire on April 15, 2019, the building was restored and recently reopened.
