The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Wednesday that a virtual summit will be held on December 20 to examine the proposed reform of the international football calendar.
By means of a statement consulted by the Anadolu Agency, FIFA said that the 211 member national federations will meet by videoconference, “to discuss the future of football after having been informed in detail of the consultation process under way. on the subject”.
Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed that the plan to organize a World Cup every two years will be at the heart of the debate and that “FIFA takes all opinions into account in an open consultation process. and thorough, with the objective of reaching a consensus satisfactory to everyone “.
Note that the governing body of world football launched in May 2021 a feasibility study on the holding of the World Cup every two years.
The Summit will aim “to reach an agreement on the international calendar, and the distribution of international windows as well as periods when the players are at the disposal of their clubs”, according to the same press release.
