The FIA gala took place in Baku, where They rewarded the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, with his impeccable pass over Sergio Checo Pérez on the last lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Alonso, who did not attend the Gala, nevertheless sent a video of gratitude upon learning that he had been voted as the author of the best maneuver of the year, in which he also wanted to share the award with ‘Checo’ and highlight the cleanliness of the same, without contacts, as an example of the current generation and those to come.
“Thank you very much to the fans for voting for me to give me this award, which I want to share with ‘Checo’, because any maneuver on the track requires the collaboration of two (pilots). And this should be an example to follow, not only for this generation, but for future ones; because we have to promote and support clean driving without contact between the cars,” said Alonso.
“Thanks to the fans and thanks to the FIA,” he declared, in the gratitude video he sent to Baku, the Asturian driver, victorious 32 times in F1, a category in which he raised his number of podiums to 106 this year.
In addition, the Mexican Red Bull driver received his prize as runner-up in the 2023 Formula 1 campaign.

Verstappen, 25, became world champion for the third time in a rowin a season in which he broke almost all records – among them that of victories in a single campaign (19) – and in which he added 575 points – another historical record -, 290 more than Checo and with 341 over the seven-time champion of the English world Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
Red Bull-Honda, for its part, received the F1 world champion trophy, picked up by Englishman Christian Horner, team leader.
The award for best newcomer of the year went to the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren)who finished ninth – with 97 points – a championship in which he was on the podium twice, finishing third in Suzuka (Japan) and second in Lusail (Qatar) where, in addition, he won the sprint test in which Verstappen was mathematically proclaimed triple world champion.
