He served as a First Grade Constable in the Cuddalore Armed Forces. He is married and has two children. The incident took place when his wife Vishnupriya and children were going to attend a relative’s wedding. When they returned, they found Prabhakaran dead. Neighbors rushed him to the hospital, but doctors confirmed his death.

According to his colleagues, Prabhakaran had recently told the police that the ghost of a woman who had committed suicide by pouring kerosene on him was being hunted. He was on medical leave for 15 days and was staying in a prayer room inside his house. However, when he returned to work after his leave, he reportedly committed suicide for fear of being haunted by a ghost.

Police have denied allegations that Prabhakaran committed suicide due to workload. Meanwhile, the news that a policeman had committed suicide for fear of a ghost has been discussed among the police. Police have registered a case of unnatural death in the incident.
