Farmers’ movement intensifies at Shambhu border, tractor march today, preparations to stop rail
Farmers are still standing at Shambhu border with their demands. Today i.e. on Monday, all the protesting farmers are going to march with their tractors outside Punjab. Farmer organizations had decided to take out a tractor march in other states besides Punjab on March 16, in view of which preparations have started. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher also said that after the march, ‘Rail Roko’ campaign will be launched in Punjab on December 18.
Farmer leader Pandher told news agency ANI, “On December 16, a tractor march will be taken out outside Punjab and on December 18, we have called for ‘Rail Roko’ in Punjab. We appeal to all Punjabis to participate in large numbers.” Pandher also wrote a letter to Rakesh Tikait-led Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). The United Kisan Morcha had launched a year-long movement against the three repealed agricultural laws.
Let us tell you that earlier in the day, security forces had used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the group of farmers marching towards Delhi from Shambhu border (‘Delhi March’). During this period 17 farmers were injured. But the farmers remained adamant on their protest despite police barricades and heavy deployment.
On this Pandher said, “The Indian government, which has the 5th largest economy in the world, used force against 101 farmers. Using cannons, chemical water was thrown at us, bombs were thrown and tear gas shells were fired. 17 farmers have been injured, many of whom are in critical condition and are not being given proper treatment in the hospital. We urge the Punjab government to ensure adequate treatment.”
