Facundo Campazzo (Córdoba, Argentina, 33 years old) was chosen this Wednesday as the new MVP of the ACB Basketball League. The Real Madrid point guard has been recognized as the best player of the 2023-24 championship in a season in which the Argentine has achieved the triplet, since to the award won today we must add the MVPs of the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. Successes that Campazzo has achieved after his return to the ACB, after three years in the NBA and a brief period back to Europe at Red Star Belgrade.
In 2020, Campazzo made the leap to the NBA, signed by Denver Nuggets, after the player reached an agreement to pay the six million euros that appeared in his termination clause in his Real Madrid contract. The point guard thus headed to the United States, after being champion of the Euroleague twice, three ACB, two Copas del Rey and four Super Cups. In the two seasons that he played in Denver, he participated in each of them in 65 of the 82 regular league games that a course contains, with 21.9 and 18.2 minutes per game. At the end of those two seasons he was left without a team and his former teammate in Madrid, Luka Doncic, recruited him for his Dallas Mavericks. There he barely played, only eight games, and in that same winter market he headed back to Europe.
Red Star Belgrade was his destination, where bureaucratic problems prevented him from playing in the Euroleague in his first two months at the club. He had to wait for the final stretch of the European championship, putting up good numbers (28 minutes, 15 points and 5.9 assists per game). Finally, in July of last year, Campazzo returned to Real Madrid. Since his return, he has added a Super Cup and a Copa del Rey to his record, and his team aspires to revalidate the Euroleague achieved without him last year and win the ACB.
