Fact Check: This girl did not commit suicide in Kota, picture of the girl went viral with misleading claim
A post is becoming increasingly viral on social media. By sharing a picture of a girl in the post, it is being claimed that the girl was studying in a coaching center in Kota and has recently committed suicide. It has been told in the post that the name of the student seen in the viral picture is Kriti, who in her suicide note has demanded closure of some coaching centers of Kota.
By sharing the picture of the girl on Facebook, it has been written in Hindi language caption that quota Kriti, a student who committed suicide, wrote in her suicide note that: -“I want to tell the Government of India and the Ministry of Human Resources that if they want that no child should die then they should close these coaching institutes as soon as possible. This coaching makes the students hollow. There is so much pressure to study that children become burdened. Kriti has written that she was successful in stopping many students in Kota from committing suicide by getting them out of depression and stress but could not stop herself. Many people will not believe that a girl like me, who has 90+ marks, can even commit suicide. But I cannot explain to you how much hatred is filled in my mind and heart. To her mother she wrote – “You took advantage of my childhood and being a child and kept forcing me to like science. I also kept studying science so that I can keep you happy. I started liking subjects like Quantum Physics and Astrophysics and wanted to do B.Sc. in the same, but let me tell you that even today I like English literature and history very much because they bring me out in my dark times.” Kriti warns her mother – ‘Don’t do such manipulative and coercive acts with your younger sister who is studying in class 11th. Letting her do what she wants to be and study, because she can do best doing what she loves. The mind gets disturbed after reading this that in this competition we are snatching away the dreams of our children. Today we have started competing with our families that so and so’s son or daughter becomes a doctor. We also want to become doctors. If so and so’s daughter or son are in Sikar/Kota hostel, then we will also teach them the same, no matter what the dreams of that child are…we are imposing our dreams on them. Today our schools (coaching institutes) are not able to teach children the importance of family relationships, they are not able to teach them to fight failures or problems. Their minds are being filled only with feelings of competition with each other which is becoming poison and taking away their lives. The one who is weak is committing suicide and the one who is a little strong is moving towards drug addiction. When our children are devastated by failures, they do not know how to deal with it. Their tender hearts get broken by this failure, due to which suicides are increasing. I feel so heartbroken to see this I request all the parents that when their children reach 10th class, they should develop a friendship with them. Understand their feelings! Guide them with love! Only then will he be able to understand and explain his feelings to you! Will be able to describe the pain of the heart, their state of mind! It is not necessary that he only becomes a doctor! Plz understand what they desire and become their true companion and help them achieve their destination! I also tried to understand these feelings and supported the children.

During Newsmobile’s investigation, we found out that the girl whose photo was used in the viral post did not commit suicide.
We investigated to find out the veracity of the claim being made along with the picture going viral on social media. First of all we started searching the viral picture on Google through Google Lens. During the search, we found a video of a girl with a viral picture on an X handle called Ek Nazar.

Now Jyoti herself has released the video and said that she is safe.

In the video, he told that his picture is being shared on social media with the claim of fake suicide. She told that her name is Jyoti Thakur, she is a resident of Himachal Pradesh and she has never been to Kota.
After this, during the search, we also found an X account of Jyoti Thakur. Where his video found on the above post was found which he posted on January 20, 2025 Was posted on. It is noteworthy that this same video In which he had told the authenticity of the viral picture. In the video, he has called the news of the viral post as fake. 
During investigation, we also found this viral picture of Jyoti Thakur on her Instagram account. Which he uploaded on December 14, 2024. From our investigation so far, it has become clear that the name of the girl seen in the viral picture is not Kriti and the claims being shared linking her to her are false.
From the facts found during the investigation, we came to know that the picture being uploaded in the viral post has been shared with a fake claim. The girl seen in the viral picture is not Kriti but Jyoti Thakur, a resident of Himachal Pradesh.
