Facebook’s India Public Policy Director Ankhi Das has resigned. According to a Reuters report, the company has told in an official statement that Ankhi Das has taken this decision citing public service.
The resignation comes at a time when Ankhi Das was accused after a report from the American newspaper ‘The Wall Street Journal’ surfaced a few weeks ago. The report claimed that Das, the top public policy executive of Facebook in India, “pressured his employees not to delete many hate speech posts before the Lok Sabha elections”. According to the report, this was done “to gain political advantage in the Indian market”.
Facebook Vice President & Managing Director India, Ajit Mohan, in a statement said, “Ankhi has decided to step down from her role in Facebook to pursue her interest in public service. Ankhi was one of our earliest employees in India and played an instrumental role in the growth of the company and its services over the last 9 years. She has been a part of my leadership team over the last 2 years, a role in which she has made enormous contributions. We are grateful for her service and wish her the very best for the future.”
