While this month has brought a string of utility increases to New York, some Queens neighborhoods already led the way with household spending above the national average.
According to a recent doxoINSIGHTS study, the average household in NY spends $2,495 a month on essential utility bills, ranking #7 on a list of the top 10 most expensive states in the country.
In detail, the neighborhoods Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, and Woodhaven from queenshave higher average spending than the US, noted QNS.com. The analysis included mortgage payments, rentals, car loans, public services, vehicle insurance, life and health, cable, Internet, mobile telephony, alarms and security, among others.
Year Maspeth residents pay about $9,320 more than the nation’s median, which is $2,046 per month, $24,552 per year. The average home in Middle Village spend $2,802 a month on bills, on ridgewood $2,693, in Richmond Hill $2801 and on Woodhaven $2,872, according to the study.
By contrast, Alabama, Missouri and New Mexico ranked as the three cheapest states in terms of household expenses.
“As consumers navigate their household bills on the today’s volatile market, bill payers can feel lost, not fully understanding how much they are actually paying each month,” said Liz Powell, Director of INSIGHTS.
Since this August living in New York has become much more expensive, with increases in electricity, gas, Subway, buses, bridges and tunnels rates.
