It was decided to evacuate the Amigdaleza Immigrant Camp, north of the capital Athens, for safety reasons, as the fire approached the region.
According to the news of the Greek State Agency AMNA, 600 immigrants who stayed here were transferred to the guesthouses in Malakasa and Petru Ralli, due to the fire in Fili reaching the camps.
Although the units of the Greek Police Service in Amigdaleza do not need to be evacuated for now, it was requested to be ready for evacuation in case the fire approached.
National Park in Parnita is endangered
The fire, which broke out on Mount Parnita, north of Athens, started to move towards the National Park.
Settlements on the outskirts of Parnitha were evacuated.
Despite all precautions and firefighting efforts from both land and air, more than 10 houses on the outskirts of Parnita were burned.
Nobody is allowed to enter the casino at the foot of Mount Parnita, which was closed yesterday due to fire.
Several houses were damaged by fire in Menidi and Agia Paraskevi, near Parnita.
Evacuations continue in Alexandroupoli, where the fire could not be extinguished
The fire in the province of Meriç, the center of which is Alexandroupoli, formed a 15-20 kilometer front towards the Rhodope province centered in Komotini.
In an urgent message sent from the Civil Protection to mobile phones in the region, those in Kışlakköy (Koila) and Melia in Meriç were asked to leave the villages and head towards Feres.
In Meriç, 1200 beehives, more than 50 barns were burned, over 900 sheep and goats were destroyed.
A call was also made for the evacuation of the villages of Gureci (Perama), Hotallar (Atarni), Petrota and Maronya (Maronia) in Rhodope.
Trakya Tobacco Producers Cooperative asked the producers who were damaged by the fire to report their losses to the cooperative.
New fire in Eğriboz
The region was put on alert due to the forest fire that broke out on Eğriboz Island today. Intervention to the fire started from land and air.
No electricity to Samothrace Island
The fire that broke out on Samothraki Island, opposite Alexandroupoli, was brought under control yesterday, but electricity has not been supplied to the island for 2 days due to the ongoing fire in Alexandroupoli.
The damage caused by the fire to the power line from Dedeğaç has not been compensated yet.
209 fires in the last 48 hours
Vasilis Kikilias, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, stated that 209 fires broke out in the last 48 hours and that the Fire Brigade responded to the fire on 350 different fronts in the last 5 days.
Noting that the fire brigade intervened in 9 fires in Attiki Region, 6 in Viotia and 1 in Eğriboz Island, in addition to the big fire in Meriç, Kikilias emphasized that the strong wind prevented the fire extinguishing efforts.
