Dependence on a single source of natural gas supplies is one of Europe’s biggest problems. In terms of reducing Europe’s dependence on Russia, the importance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will increase.
This was announced on Tuesday by the representative of the Swiss energy company Axpo Antonio Canseco at a conference in Amsterdam.
“Dependence on Russia is a big problem. We are currently experiencing the effects of dependence on one supplier. It is necessary to learn a lesson from the current situation, ”said Canseco.
He believes that in order to solve the problem of energy security, Europe should focus on LNG.
“From the point of view of reducing Europe’s dependence on Russia, the importance of LNG will increase. We are talking about renewable energies and energy transition, but it turned out that we are not ready for this. We will probably have to use natural gas for some time, ”Canseco said.
According to David Ledesma, head of the Gas Research Department of the Oxford Energy Institute, the processes in the European and world natural gas markets can be characterized as a price crisis.
He added that the next 4 months will be of particular importance.
